What does size mean

Doodles and More St. goldendoodle
Not all mini, medium and standard Goldendoodle breeders go by the standards below, so make sure you ask what the predicted size may be and what the size of each parent is. Also don't just go by weight as that can be very misleading. If you note below it states exactly that...height not weight.
We have a medium Goldendoodle who weighs as much or more then our standard Poodle. Poodles can have a hard time gaining weight regardless of activity level but I've yet to see a "skinny" Golden retriever.
You must take into consideration the height of those two dogs I just mentioned have at leasted 6"-8" differance at the shoulder.....that makes for a very differant type of companion.
The sizes of the official AKC-recognized Poodle
breeds are determined by height, not by weight.
The Toy Poodle is 10 inches or under at the
highest point of the shoulders. Any Poodle which is more than 10 inches at the
highest point of the shoulders cannot compete in the AKC show ring as a Toy
Poodle.
The Miniature Poodle must be over 10 inches and
15 inches or less at the highest point of the shoulders. Any Poodle which is
over 15 inches or is less than 10 inches at the highest point of the shoulders
cannot compete in the AKC show ring as a Miniature Poodle.
Klein Poodle (Moyen Poodle)
Falls in between the Miniature and Standard Poodle size. Not an official AKC size variation, however has become popular outside the USA.
Height: 15 - 20 inches
This is one of my favorite sizes. Great for kids and yet still small enough to share the couch or car. Moyen means medium in French. Klein means small or mini in German.
The Standard Poodle is over 15 inches at the
highest point of the shoulders. Standard Poodles which are 15 inches or less
cannot compete in the AKC show ring as a Standard Poodle.
